Guanajuato City, GTO, MX- A City Full of Color

July 16th, 2021

Hello Readers!

In the top hemisphere of the world, we are in summer. Summer is known for travel, going to the beach, seeing family and taking a break from school. Also, now that the pandemic is slowing down in many places, travel has become more common again. This summer, I decided to travel to Mexico to visit family that I had not seen in a long time and go back to my roots. One of my favorite cities to visit when I go to Mexico is Guanajuato. Although this time around I only went for a day trip, I was able to see many different things.

When thinking of this city, it is not a normal city that you might visualize. This city is full of small streets, small local shops that line every small street, everything is walking distance for each other and the culture jumps out at you at every corner.

The first stop was to eat because me and my family were starving. Even from the restaurant, the beautiful, Mexican culture was felt through the colorful decorations and welcoming restaurant employees. The resturant is called “Mexico Lindo y Sabroso”. I ordered enfrijoladas which is a tortilla with chicken inside and then on top are beans, a Mexican cream, and a type of Mexican cheese. I would 100% recommend this restaurant to anyone that goes to Guanajuato.

After we ate, we were ready for the day and to start exploring. We went to the downtown area of Guanajuato. There are many theaters, statues, stores, colorful buildings and everything in between. The Mexican culture is what makes this city/town what it is and why it has become more popular for tourists over the years.

Downtown Guanajuato definitely does not disappoint. Even though I was not able to explore the stores very much due to limited time, there are authentic Mexican candy shops, small clothing boutiques, and other shops that sell handmade products from the city.

Afterwards, we went to a lookout point of the city. You take a lift to get to one of the highest points of Guanjuato where you can lookout and see the entire city and the mountains that surround it. I call it the “City Full of Color” because it is one of the most colorful cities I have seen due to all the buildings being a different color.

One other attraction that we visited was the Museum of Legends. It talks about legends in this city and how some streets were named after a certain event. There is also a mummy museum if that is of interest to you. These museums offer more information about the city if you decided to explore and find out more about the grounds you walked on.

Hope you all enjoyed learning a bit more about this city in Mexico that is one of the best-kept secrets, in my opinion. I hope you all are having a fun summer and enjoying different sights around the world.

Until next time!

Sincerely,

The Eternal Traveler
