San Sebastian, Spain- Fall in the Basque Country

October 27th, 2021

A year and a half ago, before the pandemic, I decided to visit the Basque country and San Sebastian. But a view and a landscape can change drastically based on the season. Come along with me to the Basque country as we visit the coast and see kilometers of ocean without end.

One thing on my bucket-list was to climb to the top of monte Urgull and see the “Sagrado Corazon de Jesus”. Translated to English this mean “The Sacred Heart of Jesus”. The climb to the top of mountain takes about half an hour and offers amazing views of the coast.

Sagrado Corazon de Jesus

The small island that you can see if called Santa Clara Island. You can get there by boat or skilled swimmers can also swim there. Around the island there are many people paddle boarding, especially during this season. Is is the perfect place to sit and relax and you can climb to the top to admire the ocean surrounding this small island.

The cathedral is also definitely worth the visit. It has beautiful stained glass windows and Jesus is depicted above the altar as a shepherd which is different to most depictions where Jesus is on a cross.

San Sebastian Cathedral

I was only in San Sebastian for 2.5 hours so I had to make my trip count and do the main attractions! I recommend if you do ever go though to look for a bar or restaurant with pinchos. Pinchos are a traditional tapa in the Basque country with a toasted pieces of bread and a spread or food as a topping.

Hope you liked learning a little more about San Sebastian and the coast. I wish you all safe travels and a nice fall (or spring) season!

Sincerely,

The Eternal Traveler
