When living in a different country you tend to think all you will eat in that place is traditional food from that place. Although that is what I thought when I moved to Spain I realized that is not true in the first month of living here. The variety of restaurants with different cuisine in this city that never sleeps is astounding. In this article instead of talking about landmarks, I am going to list a few of my favorite dinner ( and one or two of my favorite brunch) places in this city.
Lunch/ Dinner places:
One of the places that I really like is Doña Luz Madrid. It is a beautiful rooftop near Plaza Sol. It has many menu items to share as well as entrees and they have an extensive drink menu. One of my favorites is a bottle of sangria to share with my friends. It is well spaced for everyone’s safety and a very comfortable location to enjoy an evening out. But, it does fill up quickly and is very popular so it is always a good idea to reserve a week ahead of time.
Another place that is very worthwhile is Orio Fuencarral. This serves pinchos which are a small piece of toasted bread with a type of seafood and garnishing on top. In addition, they serve many Basque foods from that area of Spain. It has many foods I had never tried before but it is very authentic and tasty when trying new food around Spain.
Another place that I would recommend would be Yatai Market. This is a food center which many different booths that serve different Asian Foods. There is a lot of variety so everyone person in your party has something they would like. Also, they have a specific booths where you can get sake tastings and other drinks. The seating area is free seating but there are a lot of tables and bars so it is a great option for big groups or for a one-on-one dinner as well.
Breakfast/Brunch places:
There are two places that are amazing for breakfast or brunch and they are both well known and very tasty. First one is more savory. It is called J&J books and coffee. They have homemade bagels with very many toppings, which is what I always get. They also have mimosas with the brunch menu and other drink options. The most unique part about this restaurant is that it is also a bookstore. Once you finish eating you can browse the bookstore and buy any book you would like.
Finally, this place doubles as a breakfast/ dessert place. Churros with chocolate is a typical sweet treat in Spain. One of the best places that I have discovered in Madrid is called San Gines. It is in the city center located near plaza sol and opera. It is usually pretty full during weekends but it’s definitely worth it. You get a plate of churros and a cup of dark churro chocolate.
I hope you enjoyed learning about some good food places here in Madrid and what places are definetely worth visiting if you ever do visit. Hope you all are having an amazing fall/spring season, wherever in the world you may be. Happy travels!
Sincerely,
The Eternal Traveler
